By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. (Hebrews 11:8) This verse is set in the context of a list of Old Testament people who, by faith, trusted and obeyed God. Among those included are Noah, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and David. Their lives demonstrated how God does extraordinary things through ordinary people. And they were very ordinary, having flaws just like you and me. God used Abraham who, in fear for his life, told pharaoh his wife was his sister. Jacob deceived his father to receive his brother’s blessing. Moses tried to talk his way out leading the exodus. David committed adultery. God works through weak and sinful people. God worked through the likes of Abraham, Moses, and David. He also works through the likes of us. God gives us the faith to trust Christ for our salvation. Despite our many flaws, by faith He gives us the faith to trust and obey what he has called us to do in His kingdom. Heavenly Father, thank you for the faith to trust Jesus for our salvation. May our lives be a witness to the faith you have called us to. Amen. Verse for today: Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15: 58)
