From Pastor Gary… Go and tell John what you hear and see: The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. (Matthew 11:2-5) Jesus made this statement to answer a question asked by John the Baptist. While in prison John sent disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” Jesus let his works and message answer for Him. The answer is found in His fulfilment of Messianic prophesies regarding the Messiah, including: The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of prison to those who are bound. (Isaiah 61:1) Your dead will live; their bodies shall rise. (Isaiah 26:19) Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped: then shall lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. (Isaiah 35:5-6) The works Isaiah wrote about are also referred to as signs and wonders in Scripture. We call them miracles. They demonstrate the power and sovereignty of Jesus, the Son of God. They manifested His glory. The miracles of Jesus, and all He did in fulfillment of Scripture, give testimony that Jesus Christ is the long-awaited Messiah and Savior of the world. Thank you, Jesus, for fulfilling all the work of your Father that was necessary for our salvation. Amen. Verse of the day: For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. (John 5: 36)
