Woman, behold, your son! Behold, your mother! (John 19: 26,27) I don’t think we can imagine the pain Jesus endured on the cross that day. Scripture tells us that his mother, along with the apostle John, stood near the cross. What sorrow must have filled Mary’s heart at that moment. The words Christ spoke to her give insight into his loving and selfless heart. He looks beyond his pain to the concern and the needs of others. How often do we miss the opportunity to show concern for those us who are hurting? How often are we blind to the needs of others because we do not see beyond our own problems? The needs of people are many. There are physical, emotional, social, and financial needs. Taking opportunity to help others is an opportunity to show the love of Christ. Our greatest need hung on cross that day. We need Christ. We need the forgiveness he earned for us. Peter said, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) Gospel Verse for today: So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the prophets. (Matthew 7: 12)
