Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness. (Ephesians 6: 14) There are two pieces of God’s armor in this verse. Fasten on the belt of truth. Truth is not subjective and situational. Rather it is objective and universal. God is the author of truth. Jesus said he came to bear witness to the truth (John 18:37) Our enemy, the devil has no truth in him. He is the author of lies (John 8:44). His desire is to lead us astray and down a path of destruction. God reveals his truth in His Holy Word. His truth exposes the lies of the devil. We walk in strength when we walk in truth. Wrap his truth around you so you are not led astray when the deceiver places his deadly lies in your path. Put on the breastplate of righteousness. We are made righteous not of our own doing but because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. God’s righteousness is received through faith in Jesus. Like the breastplate that protect a soldier’s vital organs, Christ’s righteousness shelters our hearts from the attacks of the devil. Verses for today: If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:31-32) But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it - the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. (Romans 3: 21-22)
