From Pastor Gary…
Father, into your hands I commit my spirit! (Luke 23: 46)
The penalty of sin is death. Christ’s death was necessary for our salvation. “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9: 22). Christ willingly went to the cross for our sins. His words “I commit my spirit” show that he was under control. When Jesus described himself as the Good Shepherd, He said, “I lay down my life” and “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down,” (John 10: 7, 18). Jesus died. The day ended with his lifeless body lying in the tomb. But a new day was about to dawn.
Gospel verse for today:
For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12: 40)
